Maddie’s in London and Her Tastes Have Changed

Maddie is 4 months into living a life abroad. She’s leading our Mason Lane London office and beyond everyone here missing her IRL, the transition has been smooth. We’re still talking daily via phone, email, text and DM, (sometimes at the same time), and she’s been sharing a ton of artist and gallery discoveries with our team in New York, Minneapolis and LA. One notable observation about all of our communication and art shares is that Maddie’s tastes are evolving.  Let me explain…

The art and IG feeds that Maddie is sharing are both beautiful and different from whatever visuals we exchanged when we were both in New York. They tend to have a more traditional, and unsurprisingly, British feel to them with layers and sweet details (like scalloped trim on a bedframe (!!)).

New York City is large, and certainly the art market here is the one of the biggest in the world, but when you run in the same circle as anyone in the city - a colleague, friend, or professional in an adjacent field - you tend to see, share and be inspired by similar material.  What’s more is that when someone (whose opinion you respect) leaves that circle and shares discoveries from another place, market, or country, your tastes can shift too.  It’s a contagious eye opening experience.  The same phenomenon happens when walking an art fair with someone whose taste you respect. That person will be drawn to art you’d quickly overlook, but considering it, simply because that person liked it, and hearing about what specifically draws them in, often gets you on board with the artist, technique, and composition. Suddenly, you’re a new fan of an artist you initially ignored.

This is one huge benefit of having colleagues in different markets; the exposure and subsequent sharing of ideas, visual or otherwise, simply opens our minds to more possibilities that ultimately benefit our clients.

Here are some of the artists and designers Maddie has shared whose style embraces a British feel we are all leaning into:

Designers:

De Rosee Sa

Nefarious Interior Design

Black and Milk

Taylor and Turner

Studio Ashby

Artists:

Katie Edwards

Andreas Eriksson

Craig Murray-Orr

Megan Baker

We’ll continue to share details about Maddie’s finds, projects, and learning curve with living the British life, as she is, and always will be, a fan favorite. (And finally, in case you missed it, here’s how Mason Lane London came to be).
